By Sean O’Connell Hollywoodnews.com: The New York Film Festival, which revealed earlier that it will open with “Carnage,” today revealed that it will close with Clooney. Specifically, the NYFF announced that Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants,” which stars Clooney as a father trying to reconnect with his estranged daughters after an accident, will close this year’s event with an Oct. 16 screening in Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. “We are delighted to welcome back Alexander Payne to the New York Film Festival. Payne’s nuanced character studies capture the moral chaos lurking just below the surface of everyday American lives,” said Rose Kuo, executive director at The Film Society of Lincoln Center. Two of Payne’s previous films, “Sideways” and “About Schmidt,” played New York’s Fest. Weeks before its Manhattan bow, “Descendants” will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film co-stars Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard, Beau Bridges and Robert Forster. It’s set to open wider on Nov. 23. NYFF organizers already revealed that Roman Polanski’s “Carnage” will open this year’s fest, while Simon Curtis’ “My Week With Marilyn” will be the Centerpiece Gala Selection. Other notable titles screening at NYFF are David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method,” Michel Hazanavicius’ “The Artist,” Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison documentary, and Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In.” Follow Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.
